Reddingsactie te water geraakte peuter in centrum van Leiden

Een meisje is zondagmiddag tussen de spijlen van de nieuwe Catharinabrug gekropen en in het water gevallen. Het kind is gered door een vriend van de ouders, een Italiaans stel, sprong meteen in het water en zwom met het meisje naar een passerende motorboot. Een tweede man sprong van de brug op de boot om de drenkelingen uit het water te helpen.

Sara Bernardi, de moeder van het meisje, reageert via Facebook op het gebeurde: “Hello, I am the mum of this little girl… it was a terrible experience for all of us but the girl is fortunately fine. The guy who jumped is our friend, he reacted immediatly. I wish to thank all the people that helped us with blankets, towels, hot drinks, we really felt helped, amazing people. If anyone has contacts with the municipality, please help show what happened, I hope we can avoid the same happening to any other kid… those bars are just too wide, it happend within a second that she slipped… terrible!”

Ambulancepersoneel heeft de drenkelingen in de Yoghurt Barn waar ze waren opgevangen onderzocht. Daar bleek dat het avontuur goed was afgelopen. Niemand hoefde naar het ziekenhuis.
